Pervez Musharraf | Musharraf stories Pervez Musharraf was a national hero of Pakistan Former Pakistani general and politician Pervez Musharraf presided over his country as president from 1999 to 2008. He was born in New Delhi, India, on August 11, 1943, and raised in Karachi, Pakistan. In 1964, Musharraf enlisted in the Pakistani Army and progressed to the rank of four-star general. From 1998 until 2007, he served as Chief of Army Staff, and during that time, he was in charge of directing the Pakistani Army in the Kargil War against India in 1999.
